Soundtrap I: Daniel Figgis' DOPPLER

Daniel Figgis' DOPPLER is an acoustic re-imagining of the architecture of Beaconsfield, London's most innovative project space for contemporary art. The first in a new series of sonic commissions - Soundtrap - the DOPPLER sound installation is derived directly from a series of ambient sound recordings made within the three discrete galleries.

Occurring both in real time and in pre-recorded form, the sounds of each room reach an occasional consonant tonal convergence. The chimera conjured results in the rooms seeming to 'sing' both to themselves and to each other. For the patient and attentive audience, passing from room to room will reveal the sonic reflux of the building itself, allowing them to create their own unique sound experience.

This sonic exposure may be further developed through a free downloadable sound archive here that will allow visitors to create and recreate their own personalised DOPPLER adaptations and archive.

Mother of all Parties (summer solstice)

At Mother of all Parties (24 June), the DOPPLER sound installation will be accompanied with live percussion, repeatedly grabbed in real time and continually fed back into the overall sound mix, building to a complex multi-layered extemporisation climaxing in the ultimate sound grab and loop which will fade and degrade throughout the final twenty four hours of the DOPPLER event.
